model collapse

solo exhibition, 2024 - 2025

now on show at tetem, enschede

ingredients: LLM, interface, spatial sound, UE5 environment, responsive lights, phantasmagoria, geoglyph, patriarch_smasher, tetemisclosed, seeding_venus and model.collapse

Is an immersive exhibition that depicts the landscape from which (generative) AI emerges..

revealing its self-consuming origins in extraction of the earth’s resources and data through relics, artifacts and stories from the past...

type in a query at the main station, and a local language model determines your location within the landscape. your query dynamically breathes life into this generative digital biome and sets the scene of the exhibition….

the environment is inhabited by cyber sculptures .... the deity that resonates with your query will awaken in response, sharing their knowledge, fighting dominant imaginaries and narratives entangled within the origins of AI touching upon: mystification, gender bias, non-western algorithmic practices, the ecological footprint and labor …

now on show: model.collapse at tetem, enschede until feb 23 2025.

concert in a.i.

ai concerts, 2019 - ongoing
ingredients: deep learning musical ai tool vnine by telemagic, interactive lights, sound, laser, analogue synthesizers, projection

are concerts with as headliner *vnine* a self-learning musical algorithm that serves as the ubiquitous host, conductor, instrument, and musician ... at the same time.

telemagic embarked on a symbolic journey to create new musical genres using AI. our vNine algorithm (developed in 2018) explores the musical spectrum through a language-infused lens. it breaks free from human limitations, generating a collective poem based on historical data . . . the concerts symbolize our relinquishment of control to vNine, turning its performance into tangible light patterns.

archive.dweller

generative artwork, 2023 - 2026
collectie centraal, centraal museum
220 x 200 x 30
ingredients: plexiglass, mirror, 3d print, touchball, led light, arduino, two screens, computer, clip interrogator, text to image ai

draws from the museum's dataset of 70,000 objects. using artificial intelligence, it combines two objects from the database to create a new image.

archive.dweller is a portal to the unique mindset of this open-source AI, revealing the texts extracted by the machine from the images.
the algorithmic interpretations and associations (normally concealed) of the artworks are often factually incorrect, sometimes poetic, occasionally style-breaking but above all, they are infinitely diverse.
the process of combining two artworks results in giving a contemporary twist to seventeenth-century paintings, while rietveld's chairs, for example, can suddenly take on a picturesque context.

the archive.dweller has been created by telemagic  for centraal museum, and you can see it as part of collectie centraal until 2027.
